|

| Life Expectancy |
The American Bulldog has a life expectancy of up to 16 years.
|
| Grooming |
Grooming is at a minimum with the American Bulldog. They are average shedders who need bathed only when needed. A firm bristled brush used between baths will take care of the rest. |
| Temperament |
The American Bulldogs is typically friendly and anxious to please. They do well with children but sometimes forget their size, so should be watched closely around smaller children. They will generally do well with other dogs if properly socialized with them at an early age, but may be aggressive towards dogs that they don't know. Smaller pets or cats may cause a problem.
The American Bulldog is very loyal to its family with a strong protective instinct. They can be reserved and wary of strangers, so early socialization is a must. The American Bulldog may not be the breed for a novice dog owner.

Training & Socialization
|
It is vital that your American Bulldog puppy receive training and socialization at an early age. They are very intelligent and learn quickly, however, they can be "bull-headed" and independent. Training is best by firmness, patience & consistency. The American Bulldog does not respond well to heavy handed or harsh training. As a protector, it is vital that they are exposed to different people in different situations as often as possible. It will not make them less of a protector, it will just allow them to know what is considered normal behavior. |
| Living Conditions |
A home with a medium to large securely fenced yard is ideal for these dogs, however with sufficient exercise they adapt to apartment living as well. |
| Health Issues |
American Bulldogs are a generally healthy breed. They can be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, & occasionally entropion eyelids. |
